Ex. Mayor Brown of St. Louis, is in town.
Mrs. F. M. Greathouse is visiting friends at Milton.
Wm. Keeting has moved into his new office next to the post office.
There is a congressional bee buzzing quietly in A. A. Goodrich’s hat.
Lawrence Roth, agent for Fenity and Merida nurseries, was in town talking trees.
J. J. Smith, of the Pilot, put in several days in town in the interest of his paper.
M. J. Parker’s p???? is getting over the effects of the Jerseyville game of base ball.
Married at the residence of Mrs. Charlotte Campbell, October 11th, Harrison P. Campbell to Miss Anna Spaugn, Esq. Lowe officiating.
Dr. C. DuHadway and Perry Erwin, of Jerseyville, spent Thursday evening last in Hardin. The Doctor was called to see F. B. Hadley at Monterey.
S. J. Merida is a candidate for justice of the peace in Hamburg precinct. He will make a good one. Lawrence Roth aspires to the office of constable in the same precinct.
Married, at Hamburg, yesterday, by Esq. N. D. Ruyle, Miss Hattie Reed to H. S. Campbell. The HERALD extends to the young couple its kindest wishes and hopes their journey through life may be one of happiness.
Fred Peters and Wm. Caselton had a little altercation yesterday afternoon, for which they were taken before Squire Greathouse and fined $10 each and costs. Caselton paid up and went off rejoicing, but Peters appealed.
Peter Williams, aged 61 years, died at this home in this precinct on Sunday evening last. His remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery at St. Michael’s cemetery on Monday last after services by Rev. Father Sumner. Mr. Williams has lived in the county for a number of years and was an honest citizen.
F. M. Hadley, a live farmer and a citizen of Calhoun for over twenty years, died at this home at Monterey on Thursday evening last. His remains were interred near Rosedale, Jersey County. Mr. Hadley leaves many friends in this county and will be sorely missed from the community in which he lived.
