BROWN, Spaulding E., born 1849, died 13-06-1911, buried Hartford cemetery.
Spaulding E Brown, 62, was born in Wheaton, Dupage County, IL and came to Jersey County with his parents and settled near Grafton.
He prepared for school teaching and taught in Calhoun county, Fieldon, Rosedale and Grafton. During these years he studied for a veterinary surgeon and farming business.
Feb. 2, 2873, he married Anna M. (Journey) Brown. They were parents of 11 children; 8 are deceased.
He died at home near Hartford, June 13, 1911. He leaves his wife and 3 sons, William, Lemuel and Charles. 1 brother William of Rosedale; 1 sister, Mrs Mary Downward of Deleware. He had taken 2 orphan children to raise, Bennie Covery and John Williams. John was at the funeral and said "Mr. Brown was good to me when I was a kid."
Funeral was at Hartford church. Rev Stephen Catt, an old friend, officiated. Masons were in charge of burial, which was in Hartford cemetery.
