Christian Science rites for George William Church, wholesale native lumber
dealer, are being held this afternoon, February 10, at two o'clock at the
Gubser Funeral Home with Miss Thelma Westerhold and Mrs. Harry Blish as
Readers. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The death of Mr. Church
occurred unexpectedly Monday afternoon, February 7, at two o'clock at his
home, 413 East Spruce Street.
The decedent was a son of the late Thomas and Mary Terneus Church and was
born in Calhoun County on February 1, 1896, and his age at the time of death
was fifty-nine years and six days.
Nineteen years ago Mr. Church moved his family to Jerseyville where they
have since resided.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Church, two sons, George and Edward
Church of Jerseyville; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Griffith of Palmyra; two
brothers, Thomas Church of Grafton and Floyd Church of Hardin; four sisters,
Miss Margaret Church of St. Louis, Mrs. Sadie Plummer of Batchtown, Mrs. Oka
Ingersoll of Pittsfield and Mrs. Alice Oettle of Hardin, and six
grandchildren.
