Laid to Rest
James A. Clendenny, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clendenny, was born August 30, 1861, at Paynesville, Mo., and departed this life on June 19, 1931, at his home in Baytown, IL, having reached the age of 69 years, 9 months and 19 days.
Together with his parents when he was but a child he came to Mozier, and remained faithful to his parents on the farm. After reaching young manhood he engaged in the trade of fisherman. He left this trade and took a partnership with his brother in the Clendenny Bros. Mercantile store at Baytown, but his health failed him some eighteen months ago and he was forced to retire and await his time until the Angel of Death called him.
He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Jones in the year 1885 on April 23rd, by: Elder E. H. Burns at Belleview.
To this happy union three children were born, namely Allie Clendenny of Jerseyville, Mrs Otis Hanson of St Louis MO and Viola Clendenny who died in infancy. His first wife also preceded him in death in the year 1898. In the year 1901 Mr. Clendenny was again united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Kellen of Mozier, who besides his two children are left to mourn.
