John Henry Clendenny, son of James W. and Jane Kitson Clendenny was born Oct. 15, 1863 at Paynesville, Mo., and departed this life in the hospital at Pittsfield, Ill. Nov. 30, 1956, having reached the age of 93 yrs., 1 mo. and 15 days.
Mr. Clendenny came to Illinois in his early childhood with his parents who purchased a farm on Fox Creek where he grew to manhood, while assisting his parents in confronting the hardships and rigors of early pioneer life. He was united in marriage to Mary Lucrettia Roach in 1894 and to this union was born one son, Edward, who with his wife preceded him in death.
He also leaves to mourn his departure two sisters, Mrs. Anna Ball of Belleview; Mrs. Sarah Thomas, Nebo; three brothers, Amos, of Belleview; Charles of Mozier, and Logan of Jerseyville; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Harry Jennings of Macomb, Ill., two granddaughters, Mrs. Claud Freeman of Pleasant Hill, and Mrs. Velda Dacus, Atlanta, Ga., and a host of nieces and nephews. Four brothers preceded him in death, namely, Asa, Richard, James A. and Cary E.
Mr. Clendenny pursued the occupation of fishing and farming and upon retiring from these occupations he moved to Hamburg where he permanently resided.
His last illness extended over a period of weeks during which time he suffered much. His many acts of kindness and devotion will long be remembered.
