Obituary - Mary Clendenny

Mary Lucretia Roach Clendenny was born Feb. 9th, 1873, and departed this life Oct. 17, 1956, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 8 days. She was the daughter of William and Myra Melvina Roach. She grew to womanhood on West Panther Creek in Calhoun County.

She was married to Hezekiah McIntire in 1890, to which union was born one daughter, Mrs. Harry Jennings of Macomb, Ill. After the death of Mr. McIntire she was united in marriage to John H. Clendenny in 1894 and to this union was born one son, Edward, who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1953.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, who is critically ill, one daughter, Mrs. Harry Jennings; one sister, Mrs. Stella Jeffries of Connecticut and one brother, Emmet Roach of Hamburg; two granddaughters, Mrs. Velda Dacus of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Erma Freeman of Pleasant Hill; one grandson, Harry Lee Jennings of Elgin, Ill.; 2 great grand-children, Mrs. Keith Booth of Nebo and J. C. Freeman of Pleasant Hill; 2 great great grandchildren, Judy and Mickey Booth; also reared one niece, Sharon Roach. Six sisters and 2 brothers preceded her in death, namely: Lula Phillips, Laura Kirk, Clara Higgison, Lily Wodds, Anna Anthony, Sally Burris, Anderson Roach and James Roach. Besides those mentioned she leaves many nieces, nephews and numberless friends.

She was known for her love of company and great hospitality, and her greatest pleasure was in doing something to make others happy. Her many acts of kindness and devotion will long be remembered by those who went to her for help and were always graciously received.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Hamburg Methodist Church by Rev. Robert Berry, assisted by Rev. Virgil Elmore, with Hanks Funeral Service in charge.
